Course Descriptions
SOCIOL 1: Introduction to Sociology (4 Units)
Introduces students who are considering majoring in sociology to the basic topics, concepts, and principles of the study of society. This course is required for the major; 1 or any version of 3 is prerequisite for other sociology classes; students not considering a sociology major are directed to any version of 3 or 3AC.
STAT 2: Introduction to Statistics (4 Units)
Population and variables. Standard measures of location, spread and association. Normal approximation. Regression. Probability and sampling. Interval estimation. Some standard significance tests.
HISTORY 5: European Civilization from the Renaissance to the Present (4 Units)
This course is an introduction to European history from around 1500 to the present. The central questions that it addresses are how and why Europe—a small, relatively poor, and politically fragmented place—became the motor of globalization and a world civilization in its own right. Put differently, how did “western” become an adjective that, for better and often for worse, stands in place of “modern”.
