Society and Stories: Psychology, Sociology & Math (11 Units)

This cluster offers students an interdisciplinary foundation in sociology, psychology, and math, focusing on human behavior, society, and culture. This cluster prepares students for careers in public health, media, or social welfare by providing a well-rounded perspective on the complexities of human societies. Students will fulfill the L&S breadths Social & Behavioral Sciences with this cluster.

Course Descriptions

SOCIOL 1: Introduction to Sociology (4 Units)

Introduces students who are considering majoring in sociology to the basic topics, concepts, and principles of the study of society. This course is required for the major; 1 or any version of 3 is prerequisite for other sociology classes; students not considering a sociology major are directed to any version of 3 or 3AC.

PSYCH 1: General Psychology (3 Units)

Introduction to the principal areas, problems, and concepts of psychology. This course is required for the major; students not considering a psychology major are directed to 2.

MATH 51: Calculus I (4 Units)

This course is intended for STEM majors. An introduction to differential and integral calculus of functions of one variable, with applications and an introduction to transcendental functions. Prior to Fall 2025, this course was offered as Math 1A.
